Electro Surgery:

It is a popular surgical procedure; almost every skin clinic is equipped with it. It implies destruction of a skin lesion with the use of an electric direct galvanic current or alternating high frequency current. Being electrical it is fairly well controlled as compared to chemical Cautery or cryosurgery.

The principal uses of Electro surgery are for :

Destruction of benign superficial lesions : warts , Molluscum , keratosis & skin Tags.

Hemostasis and the ablation of vascular growths.

Destruction of melignant tumor of the skin

Electro Desiccation produces superficial destruction by dehydrating cells. the needle is held in contact with tissue or kept a short distance away and the current is transmitted through a spark . the lesion is destroyed by burst of electric current.

Electro coagulation produces more severe destruction primary by heat & secondary by destructive mechanical forces. The needle placed in or on the tissue deliver an intentionally hot current and literally boils & coagulates the lesion.

Electro Cauterization means burning with rod connected with direct galvanic current. It produces excellent hemostasis in a bloody field. And the extent of tissue destruction of lesions is readily apparent. And sharply localized about the Cautery tip.

Equipment:

  Electric Cautery unit
Needles of different shape & sizes.
  Local Anesthes

Indications:

Warts

Papiloma

Skin tags

Seborrhoeic keratosis

Moles

Method: Under effect of local anesthesia, needle is inserted in to the lesion and the tissue is charred and destroyed.

Post operative: Wound is cleaned and dressed with antibiotic ointment

Complications and side effects

Pain

Burning

Scarring
