Cryo Surgery:

   

Cryo surgery implies destruction of diseased tissues by use of very cold producing substances. The implication is that cold produced tissue necrosis results in less scarring as compared to heat and chemicals.
 
   
Common Cryogen:
   


(Liquid Nitrogen- temp achieved –190`C. Liquid Nitrogen appears to be first choice
   
because of the achievement of very low temperature , is faster and has deeper destruction.
   
Co2 snow, Ice slush temp achieved -9`C . Less effective compared to Liquid Nitrogen.
   
Good for Facial warts or Rhinophyma.
       
    Indication of Cryosurgery:
   


Warts
   
Keratosis
   
Molluscum contagiosum
   
Nodulo Cystic lesions of acne
   
Keloids
       
   
Procedure :
   


Liquid Nitrogen is stored in a container from which it can be taken out either in a
   
Vacuume flask or in a Cryojet fitted with different spray nozzles. Cotton tipped sticks are dipped in to the flask & applied till the tissue become frozen & extending upto peripheral area of 2 –3 mm around the lesion. Freezing is repeated again when the frosting clears. 2 – 3 applications are required for larger lesions.

Haemorrhage
   
Blisters
   
Scarring
   
Hypo/Hyper pigmentation
    On the whole cryosurgery is fast, comparatively painless, bloodless and gives fairly good
